Internet and Social Movements
This course is the third course in a series of five courses related to a NSF CAREER Award examining Internet activism. Prior 146/294 instances focused on internet and social science research broadly and project design and management. This instance of the course is designed to develop substantive expertise on the literature on social movements and the Internet, along with other new media. Readings will come from multiple disciplines, with a greater balance of readings oriented toward sociology. The goals of the course are: (1) to develop an understanding of several major research issues in the field of social movement studies generally; and (2) to develop an understanding of how research on the Internet and web intersect with these major research issues.
