Lecture Series & Forums

CITS hosts public events as part of its mission to understand the cultural transitions and social innovations associated with technology. Three events that CITS sponsors on a regular basis during the academic year are:

Research Lecture Series
This is a series of lectures given by faculty, researchers, and graduate students at UCSB every quarter. Topics examined in this series have a broad range. Speakers come from a cross-section of disciplines at UCSB with scholars exploring the impact and implications of technology.

Distinguished Lecture Series
This is a yearly lecture given by a notable extramural leader whose work has a fundamental connection to understanding the place of technology in society. Past speakers include: Lawrence Lessig, David Byrne, Vinton Cerf, Howard Rheingold, Doc Searls, and J.D. Lasica.

Santa Barbara Forum on Digital Transitions.
The Santa Barbara Forum on Digital Transitions is an annual meeting exploring cutting-edge trends and long-term social transformations resulting from people’s use of information technologies. The Forum brings together leading thinkers from universities, industry, media, foundations, and the not-for-profit world to exchange ideas about the dynamic interplay among information technology, social activity, and human psychological processes.
